Hi, I’m Margie
Hi, food and adventure lovers! My name is Margie Kendall, and I am a 29 year old who is obsessed with finding new places to explore, meeting new people, discovering new dishes to eat and cook myself, and inspiring others to get creative in the kitchen. I've been cooking for most of my life. Even as a young girl, I always wanted to help my parents in the kitchen and give my own dishes a shot to impress family and friends. I am not formally trained - no culinary school for me. I think that's what makes me able to better communicate recipes with those who may get intimidated in the kitchen sometimes. I seek to inspire all to learn to love their kitchen.
Delicious food doesn't always need to be bought in 5 star restaurants. YOU can create them in your kitchen with NO formal training. Cooking shouldn't be too pretentious. It shouldn't be too difficult. It shouldn't be something we shy away from because of fancy words, techniques, and ingredients we don't understand. You shouldn’t have to scroll for more than 5 seconds to find the recipes you need on food blogs. Here at MargieFoodie, we give it to you easy, simple, and frustration free.
I want to make cooking fun and fresh for my readers. More importantly, by inspiring creativity, wanderlust, and confidence in the kitchen, I want to make food an adventure.
Though I am not formally trained, I do work full time in the food industry! I am the Director and a culinary instructor at Serenity Knoll Farm, located in Jonesborough, TN.
fun facts about me
I currently live in Johnson City, TN, with my husband, Tom.
I grew up in Kalamazoo, MI, and still firmly believe that Michigan is the very best state (when it’s not snowing).
My husband and I live in a close to 100-year-old fixer upper, and we just finished a major kitchen renovation. Tom is in construction and helped me have my dream kitchen!
I was in Michigan State University’s marching band.
I do not have a favorite food! What I crave changes day to day. It’s the hardest question I ever get asked.
My favorite kitchen tools are: my cast iron skillet, my rubber spatula, my immersion blender, sturdy tongs, my Le Creuset dutch oven, and Kosher salt!
I have been to 22 countries on 6 continents. Travel gives me life! Favorites: the Galapagos Islands, Hong Kong, and the Great Barrier Reef (I’m a diver!)
If I could acquire three brand new skills, it’d be: to be a wine connoisseur, to play the piano, and to run a half marathon in under two hours! (I am a runner, but I am not fast at all).
I love craft beer. My favorite breweries are: Bell’s Brewery, JRH (local to me!), Founders, Highland, Wicked Weed’s Funkatorium (sour ales), and Shorts.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in medical ethics and a Masters degree in social entrepreneurship, along with professional certifications in grant writing and social media marketing.
I began my dream job as a cooking class instructor in early 2018.
